Secular literature is any kind of literature which is not written on religious beliefs and practices. The literature which is not related to religion and is neutral in terms of religion and religious practices. The subject matter of secular literature is non-religious. The subject matter could be polity, economy, social life, military, science, history, kings and dynasties, travel etc. There may be some religious references as well.

The five examples of secular literature are :

1.  Chronicles like Rajatarangni of Kalhana.

2.  Biographies like Tuzki Babri of Babur.

3.  Travelogues or foreign accounts like Si-yu-ki of Hein Tsang.

4.  An account on military skills like  Taj-ul-masir of Sadruddin Mohammad Hassan Nizami.

5.  Works on polity and state like Arthashastra of Kautaliya.
