Every person I have known throughout my life has influenced me in some way. Growing up in a neighborhood full of adults and few children has shaped who I am today as well as public figures or worldwide events have. When I was little, I was the youngest of all the kids on my block and I wanted to do everything that they did, however, my sister was the complete opposite. She loved to go swimming and stay in and read while I was constantly outside as I never really enjoyed reading or understood the true meaning the books were conveying. Nevertheless, it was wanting to be just like my older sister that eventually influenced me to read the Harry Potter series. My sister, Courtney, once told me that “once you find the right genre of books, you will never stop reading.” Her statement proved to be true because once I started reading the series I couldn’t put down any of the books. JK Rowling, the author of the Harry Potter series, had me captivated and inspired. I have been forever changed by JK Rowling, the author who is credited with changing the face of young adult literature and the author who inspired my love of literature. As a public figure can have significant influence so can a major catastrophic event. Being born in 1999, I was only two years old in 2001. I can remember bits and pieces of September 11th. Although I was very young September 11 remained in my mind because I remember how everyone around me reacted with sadness, shock, and disbelief. This attack led to safety precautions for the entire world and led to my parents being extremely cautious when it came to me and my sister.
