Summary of Amanda:

Amanda, a poem written by Robin Klein is about a girlnamed Amanda who is is constantly nagged for the mistakes she makes by her mother.

In the first stanza, Amanda's parent orders her not to bite her nails and tells her to sit in a proper manner.

In the second stanza, she imagines she was a mermaid. She wishes to drift peacefully in solitude [loneliness] in the emerald sea.

In the third stanza, her mother asks her if she had finished her homework, cleaned her room and scolds her for not cleaning her own shoes.

In the fourth stanza, Amanda imagines herself wandering alone in the street with bare feet. She thinks silence is peacefully and being independent from her family is sweet.

In the fifth stanza, Amanda gets a scolded for eating chocolate as she got acne over her face for eating chocolate once. Her mother also tells her to look at her while their speaking to her.

In the sixth stanza, Amanda dreams of being Rapunzel, a princess who lived in a lonely tower all by herself. She wants not to care and live a calm and peaceful life. She says she would never let her long bright hair down for anyone to climb up in the tower.

In the seventh stanza, her mother tells her not to be moody as people would think her mother nagged her
