Side of a square increase by 10 percent. find the increase in area


kushagra191: let the side of the square be x. therefore the new side equals x plus tenx by hundred..now calculate area in the second case and the first case and subtract the first area from the second area...now multiply the result by hundred and divide by the initial area...Boom!there is your answet

original side length = x
new side length = x+10percent x = 1.1x
original area = x^2
new area = (1.1x)^2 = 1.21x^2
so we have increased area by factor of 1.21 =1+0.21
=1+21 percent
so we have increase area by 21%
