1) -2x + 5 + 10x - 9

   = (-2x + 10x) + (5 - 9)

   = 8x + (-4)

   = 8x - 4

3) (x + 7) +2(-x + 4) + 5x

   = x + 7 + (-2x) + 8 + 5x

  = x + 7 - 2x + 8 + 5x

  =  (x - 2x + 5x) + (7 + 8)

  = 4x + 15
