Religious Causes:

  • The major cause of the uprising was the fear among the people , company wanted the Indian to Convert into Christian.
  • Christian missionaries was very active at this time.
  • These conversions were the proof of the fear.Further a law passed in 1850 that allowed a christian convert inhert ancestral property.
  • Belief that their religion was under threat united all sections of society against british.
