Social divisions can be or cannot be dangerous. I will try to answer your questions through examples.
(i)Let us take the example of Belgium. There were social divisions in Belgium on the basis of language. The majority were of people were the Dutch speaking in the country but in the capital it was the French that had the majority. Here, the social divisions had actually helped improve their constitutional structure. The government rearranged their constitution and produced a very improved constitution which gave equality to the majority and the minority.
(ii)In the case of Sri Lanka, it took a different turn. The government turned to majoritarianism and overshadowed the minority of the Sri Lankan Tamils. This led to the bitter conflict between the Sinhalese and the Sri Lankan Tamils. In is case the social division in the country turned out to be dangerous as countless innocent lives were lost.
Therefore, by giving these examples ,we can say , that a social division may turn out to be dangerous but can even make a place better.
