sodium chloride is an ionic compound. Why​

Answer:

Sodium(Na) is a alkali metal so it must have a positive charge on it.

And

Chlorine(Cl) which belongs to halogen family must have negative charge on it .

So,

both charges/ions attract each other to form ionic bond between Sodium and chlorine (As it form between two different ions) which form sodium chloride(NaCl).

So, due to presence of ionic bond between them sodium chloride is a ionic compound .
