Answer:

x = 3 and y = 2

Step-by-step explanation:

For solve given equations graphically,

Firstly we make value table in which we randomly keep values of one variable and we get the values of other variables.

In equation 5x + y =17 ⇒ y = 17 - 5x

Putting x = 2, we get y = 7

Putting x = 3, we get y = 2

Thus we get two co-ordinates (2, 7) and (3, 2)

Mark these points on graph and join them.

In equation 2x -2y = 2 ⇒ y = x + 1

Putting x = 2, we get y = 3

Putting x = 1, we get y = 2

Thus we get two co-ordinates (2, 3) and (1, 2)

Mark these points on graph and join them.

The Point of intersection of these two lines is the solution of given equation, which is (3, 2).

For Algebraically, We have many methods

Using substitution method:

5x + y =17 ⇒ y = 17 - 5x

Putting the value of y in another equation.

2x -2( 17 - 5x) = 2

⇒ 2x - 34 + 10x = 2

⇒ 12x = 36

⇒ x = 3

Also since y = 17 - 5x = 17 - 5 × 3 = 2

Thus, x = 3 and y = 2.
