x = -5 is the solution of equation 3x+2=x-8.

3x + 2 = x - 8

3x - x = -8 -2

2x = -10

x = -5

(i) the number line

Draw a line with measures represented in cm unit like a ruler.

From point 0 move towards left direction till 5 units and mark it as A.

Hence the required number line representation.

(ii) The Cartesian plane.

Mark a point on x-axis at x = -5 units.

Draw a vertical line on point x = -5 units.

Hence the required Cartesian plane representation.
