4^(x +1) + 4^(x-1) = 10
4^x( 4 + 1/4 ) = 10
operating log on both sides at the base 2
log[ 4^x( 4 + 1/4 ) ] = log10
log( 4^x) + log(17/4) = log2 + log5
2x +log17 - log 4 = 1 + log5
2x -3 = log5 - log17
2x = log(5/17) +3
2x = log(40/17)
x = [ log(40/17) ]/2
x = log(40/17) at base 4
Hope it helps!!!!!!
