x = -1/2  ; y = 1/3

Step-by-step explanation:

Let 1/x = u and 1/y = v

 3/x – 1/y = −9

  3u  - v = -9 ------------(1)

 2/x + 3/y = 5

  2u + 3v = 5 ------------(2)

(1)*3, we get: 9u - 3v = -27 -----(3)

Adding 2 & 3, we get: 11u = -22.

Therefore u = -2

Substituting in (1), we get: -6 - v = -9

Therefore v = 3

So u = 1/x = -2. Therefore x = -1/2

So v = 1/y = 3. Therefore y = 1/3
