now the product of the numbers is 143

xy=143 ....................................(2)

Putting the value of x in (2) we get,

-y^2+24y-143=0

y^2-24y+143=0

y^2-11y-13y+143=0

y(y-11)-13(y-11)=0

(y-13)(y-11)=0

therefore,y=11 and 13

hence x=24-11=13. (when y = 11)

x=24-13=11. (when y = 13)
