Step-by-step explanation:

given,

measure of a side of a square

=1/2(x+1)-----------【1】

length of diagonal

=(3-x)/√2-----------【2】

consider,

the right triangle ,where the hypotenuse is the diagonal & the other 2 sides are equal to the sides of the square

AC^2 = AB^2 + BC^2

AC^2 =2[AB]^2

[(3-x)/√2]^2 =2 [1/2(x+1)]^2

(x^2 + 9 - 6x)/2 =( x^2 + 2x +1)/2

8x=8

x=1--------【3】

now, substitute 【3】 in 【1】

1/2(1+1) =1/2(2) = 1

hence,the length of the side of the square is 1 unit
