The Norwegians hide the brooms on Christmas Eve.

This is one of the most unorthodox Christmas Eve traditions. The tradition started many centuries ago when people believed that witches came out on Christmas Eve looking for brooms to ride on. Even now many people hide the brooms in a safe place in the house so that they are not stolen.
