In a examination a student must get 36% marks to pass. Jayant gets 180 marks and fails by 36 marks. Find the maximum marks.

So passing marks is 180+36=216
Let the total marks be x
36% of x = 216
Therefore, x=(216 X 100) divided by 36 
=600
Therefore, the maximum marks is 600
