Autotomy or self defense.

Explanation:

A lizard leaves its tail as a part of the self defense mechanism in which the lizards drops its tail to distract the predator who is following it.

The work has been taken from a Greek word autotomy which means self amputation or self server.

The tails of the lizard is weak and is known as fracture plane . In case of any stress the muscle pulls away from another end rather than knitting together.

This process is known as the reflex muscular spasm. This leads to the falling of tail.
