The smoke and dust from these explosions would be enough to cover the atmosphere and block a significant part of Sun's heat from reaching Earth. This can be significant enough to cool down Earth for more than several decades. This along with radiation from the nuclear bombs will make life on Earth very hard. This is known as Nuclear Winter.
