Due to sublimation, some solids like naphthalene balls, camphor etc diffuse directly into gases. This property prevents the clothes from insects.

It’s a matter of solubility or non-solubility.
A noble metal - platinum, for instance - might not dissolve in solvents but, when heated above it’s melting point would diffuse as a vapor into the atmosphere.
A polymeric material could easily dissolve in a solvent but when heated would either degrade or ignite and not diffuse into the air in it’s polymeric form.
