The headquarter of Ganga is called "Bhagirathi" is fed by the Gangotri glacier and joined by Alknanda at Devaprayag in Uttrakhand.


At Haridwar the Ganga emerges from the mountains in to the plains.


Its teributries flood parts of northern plains every year, causing widespread damage to life and property but enrich the soil for extensive agricultural land.
