sponge is a solid ,but we can compress it .why?​

Sponge is a solid. It can be compressed due to presences of air hole between it. which 8th filled by air. However, the air present between the particles only comes out and the particles themselves do not compress.

because sponge has small holes in which air are filled and when we compress the

air is expelled out so we are able to compress it
