Ester-CH3COOC2H5

saponification refers to the alkaline hydrolysis of an ester to form glycerol and soap..

CH3COOC2H5+NaOH forms CH3COONa + C2H5OH

alkaline hydrolysis of an ester to give soap and glycerol is called saponification reaction.
eg. CH3COOC2H5+NaOH------ CH3COONa+ C2H5OH
here CH3COOC2H5 is ester I.e. ethyl ethanoate and CH3COONa is soap I.e. sodium ethanoate .
