7 < [50] < 8

The first 12 or so perfect squares should be fairly easy to memorize if you know your “times tables”. When an integer (n) falls between two squares (a^2 and b^2), [n] will fall between a and b. So if we know that 36 = 6^2 and 49 = 7^2, then [n] for any n > 36 and < 49 will be between 6 and 7.
