State Newton's first law of motion. If first law holds good, why does a rolling football come to rest on its own?

Every body continues to be in its state of rest or of uniform motion until an external force is applied to change that state of rest or of uniform motion.

A football comes to rest not by its own but due to frictional force (which acts as an external force to stop the ball ).
