1) Dmitri Mendeleev -- modern periodic law. Dmitri Mendeleev was a Russian chemist . He is considered to be the most important contributor to the development of the periodic table. His version of the periodic table organized elements into rows according to their atomic mass and into columns based on chemical and physical properties.

2) Marie Curie --- Her contributions such as the discovery of Radium and other key elements help us out every day, especially when getting an x-ray.

3) Amedeo Avogadro is best known for his hypothesis that equal volumes of different gases contain an equal number of molecules, provided they are at the same temperature and pressure. His hypothesis was rejected by other scientists. It only gained acceptance after his death. It is now called Avogadro's law.

4)Ernest Rutherford (1871 - 1937) discovered alpha and beta rays, set forth the laws of radioactive decay, and identified alpha particles as helium nuclei. Most importantly, he postulated the nuclear structure of the atom.

5)Joseph Priestley: The man who discovered Oxygen. One of the founding fathers of chemistry, Joseph Priestley stumbled across photosynthesis, is credited with the discovery of oxygen and accidentally brought us soda water.
