"The hind brain is composed of the medulla, the pons and the cerebellum. The medulla lies next to the spinal cord and controls function outside conscious control, such as breathing and blood flow. In other words the medulla controls essential functions.

The parts of the hindbrain are pons medulla and cerebellum. The pons takes part in respiration.
The cerebellum helps in maintaining posture and balance of the body. It also enables us to make precise and accurate movements.The cerebellum also controls various involuntary actions.
Medulla is the controlling centre for reflexes such as swalloing coughing sneezing secretion of saliva and vomiting.
