Answer :-

☆The organs of digestion in animals (mostly mammals) are divided into two main groups :-

  • Alimentary canal
  • Accessory organs

☆The "Alimentary canal" is a continuous tube, running through the ventral body cavity.

☆The alimentary canal extends from the "Mouth" to the "Anus".

☆The total length of the alimentary canal is about 30 feet.

☆The large surface area of the alimentary canal helps in increasing the total surface area of absorption of nutrients inside the body.

☆The alimentary canal mainly includes the following organs :-

  • Buccal cavity
  • Pharynx
  • Oesophagus (Food pipe)
  • Stomach
  • Small intestine
  • Large intestine
  • Rectum
  • Anus

☆The accessory organs of digestion include the following organs :-

  • Teeth
  • Tongue
  • Epiglottis
  • Spinchter muscles
  • Peristaltic muscles
  • Digestive glands
  • Gall bladder
  • Pancreas
  • Appendix

Note :-

The Alimentary canal is also known as the "Gastrointestinal tract".
