Antonio gave the folllowing examples to show shylock's stubborn nature :
He said that bassanio remember you are arguing with a jew . An ocean tide can reduce it's height if you ask it to , you can ask the wolf that why he made the mother of the lamb cry by eating it , you can even ask the trees not to move and make no noise when the wind blows , but you cannot change the decision of this stubborn jew . You can do the hardest thing in the woerld but you cannot melt the heart of this jew .
A Short one !

Antonio tells that Bassanio is hoping to soften Shylocks heart he might as well stand on the sea shore and ask the tide not to rise so high as usual.
secondly he may s well ask the Wolf why he has made the mother sheep to mourn for the lamb he has devoured.
thirdly he may as well expect the tall pines if the hillsides not to wave their high tops and not to make a noise when they are disturbed by the strong winds.he may soften anything which is hard rather then the hard heart of Shylock.
hope it helps you.
