Explanation:
Bhim Yadav, a 12-year-old boy from Mangalpur in Bihar, while on his way to the fruit orchards in town, saw a broken railway track.
Not caring that the temperature was a low 10 degrees Celsius, Bhim acted on instinct, and took off his red t-shirt to alert the driver of an oncoming train. The young boy's braved the cold and ran against the oncoming train, signalling the engine driver to halt it.
The boy's presence of mind and courage resulted in saving hundreds of passengers traveling in the train. The driver, who was clueless about the upcoming disturbance on the railway track in the district of West Champaran, responded to the boy's signal and halted the train.
The train was running on the Gorakhpur-Narkatiaganj line. Harendra Jha, district education officer of Champaran district in an interview with Gulf News said,
"That is indeed a brave act. We are going to reward him for his bravery which saved the lives of passengers. The reward could be in form of cash or citation. We are still deciding over it but one thing is sure, he is going to be rewarded."
Bhim is a student of class five in a Government school in Mangalpur. What inspired him to go ahead and run against an oncoming train was earlier incidents of valour by other children around the area. As reported by India Today, the boy, while speaking with the local media, said,
"Once I had visited a relative in the nearby village where the people were talking about a bravery of a boy. I too wanted to do something so that the society could discuss about me as well. I am happy to save the lives of the passengers."
