'The necklace' is a story in which a typical middle-class couple go to a ball. The wife loses an expensive diamond necklace which she borrows from her friend. The take a loan from a bank and tell a jeweller to make an exact replica of the necklace. After he makes it, the wife returns it. But, they have to repay the loan. The beautiful wife had to work in people's houses as a maid and her husband had to work extra. They finally repay the loan after 10 years. Then, one day, the wife sees her friend. Now, as she repayed the loan she tells her the whole stroy that had happened and learns that the necklace wasn't infact expensive, but was made out of normal stones rather than diamonds.

the necklace is a very interesting story about a woman named mathilde at the start she thinks to have a very luxurious life she wanted to marry a very rich man but couldn't and was married to a minor official .she never had friends she only had one friend named miss forestier which she did not like to visit bcz miss forestier was rich and mathilde was jealous
one day her husband comes home and says that they are invited to a very big party and mathilde instead of being happy is very sad as her husband asks her what's the matter she complaints that she does not has any nice dress to wear
her husband asks that how much do you want she calculates and says ,400 francs (France currency is known as francs)
the husband realizes he was saving the same amount to take something for himself but he says to himself that let my wife be happy after that malthile gets her dress but was not happy again her husband asks what happened she replies she does not have any jewelry to wear her husband suggests that she should borrow something from miss forestier
next day she goes to madame forestier and asks for jewelry

malthile tries many but always ended up saying ,"do you have something else "
