range refers to the region where its influence can be seen or felt. Around a magnet, only at specific region we can feel its magnetic field this is called range.

It refers to the fact  that this kind of force is only effective in the nucleus when the distance between the nucleons is not very big.

As we know, it kind of opposes the repulsion that the protons would exert on each other only for the purpose of making a strong nucleus that can't be split by repulsion of protons. So only electric force and other forces like magnetic force will continue to act for longer distances between these particles.
