Firstly, Let's understand the concept of Substitution reaction. As the name suggests, it has something to do with substitutes, right?

Substitution reaction is that reaction wherein one or more than one substances in a chemical compound are replaced by another substance. 

This is also known as displacement or replacement reaction. 

Examples- In the gas, ethane; CH3CH3reacts with bromine vapour and during the reaction, an atom of hydrogen is replaced by that of bromine.
