Given :- Sudhir bought 20 dozen of oranges at the rate of RS 3 each. 40 of them are rotten and unfit to sell. He sold 100 of them at the rate of RS 2 at what rate should he sell the remaining oranges to make a profit of 10% on the whole outlay ?

Solution :-

→ Total oranges bought by sudhir = 20 dozen = 20 * 12 = 240 oranges .

so,

→ CP of all oranges = 3 * 240 = Rs.720

→ Profit = 10%

→ SP = CP * (100 + profit%)/100 = (720 * 110)/100 = Rs.792

now, since 40 of the oranges are rotten, so left 200 oranges were sold .

now,

→ SP of 100 oranges = 100 * 2 = Rs.200

then,

→ SP of left 100 oranges is = Total SP - SP of 100 oranges = 792 - 200 = Rs.592

therefore,

→ Rate of each mango = 592/100 = Rs.5.92 (Ans.)

Hence, he must sell the remaining oranges at Rs.5.92 each to make a profit of 10% on the whole outlay .

Solution :

Total oranges bought by sudhir 20

dozen 20 × 12 = 240 oranges

So,

CP of all oranges = 3 × 240 = Rs.720

Profit = 10%

SP CP × (100 + profit%)/100 =

(720× 110 ) / 100= Rs.792

now, since 40 of the oranges are rotten,

so left 200 oranges were sold.

now,

SP of 100 oranges = 100 × 2 Rs.200

then,

SP of left 100 oranges is = Total SP - SP of 100 oranges 792 - 200 Rs.592

 \thereforeRate of each mango = 592/100 Rs. 5.92

Hence, he must sell the remaining

oranges at Rs.5.92 each to make a profit

of 10% on the whole outlay.
