accepts electrons from metal atoms to form the sulphide ion having a charge of -2. But when sulphur is burnt in air or oxygen, it undergoes oxidation to form sulphur dioxide (SO2). ... At the sametime, free sulphur is also oxidised to the same dioxide by the acid, which act as the oxidising agent
