If sum of present age of sailja and payal is 29
S+P =29 (1)

3 years ago, ages will be (S-3) and (P-3)
So, if the difference of their ages 3year ago was 5

(P-3) - (S-3) = 5
P - S = 5 (2)

By adding (1) and (2),
S+P+P-S = 29+5
2P = 34
P = 17

Now putting this value in (1)
S+17=29
S=12

Ages 2 years from now
P+2 = 19
S+2=14

SOLVING (BY METHOD OF COMPARISON)

Let Sajita's present age be x and Payal's present age be y.

Then,

According to the question,

x + y = 29 ......(i)

(y - 3) - (x - 3) = 5 .....(ii)

From equation (i) , we get,

x = 29 - y ....(iii)

From equation (ii), we get,
---------------------------------------

(y - 3) - (x - 3) = 5

=> y - 3 - x + 3 = 5

=> y - x = 5

=> x = - 5 + y .....(iv)

Now, comparing the values of x from equation (i) and (ii), wet get,

29 - y = - 5 + y

=> y + y = 29 + 5

=> 2y = 34

=> y = 34/2

=> y = 17

Now,

Payal's present age = y = 17 years

Sajita's present age = x = 29 - y = 29 - 17 = 12 years


Then,

After two years ,

Sajita's age = 12 + 2 = 14 years

Payal's age = 17 + 2 = 19 years
