3x2-7x-11=0

Two solutions were found :

x =(7-√181)/6=-1.076

x =(7+√181)/6= 3.409

Step by step solution :

Step 1 :

Equation at the end of step 1 :

(3x2 - 7x) - 11 = 0

Step 2 :

Trying to factor by splitting the middle term

2.1 Factoring 3x2-7x-11

The first term is, 3x2 its coefficient is 3 .

The middle term is, -7x its coefficient is -7 .

The last term, "the constant", is -11

Step-1 : Multiply the coefficient of the first term by the constant 3 • -11 = -33

Step-2 : Find two factors of -33 whose sum equals the coefficient of the middle term, which is -7 .

-33 + 1 = -32

-11 + 3 = -8

-3 + 11 = 8

-1 + 33 = 32

Observation : No two such factors can be found !!

Conclusion : Trinomial can not be factored

Equation at the end of step 2 :

3x2 - 7x - 11 = 0

Step 3 :

Parabola, Finding the Vertex :

3.1 Find the Vertex of y = 3x2-7x-11
