case 1:-
now, x+y=12 --------------(1)

cas2:-
$\frac{x}{y + 3} = \frac{1}{2} \\ x = \frac{1}{2}(y + 3)$
now put x value in equation 1,
you will get y=7
now
x=12-7=5
hence the fraction is
$\frac{5}{7}$
