  • Introduction : the chapter is a satire on all those in power . The main protagonist is the king of pratibandhapuram better referred to as the tiger king . Now here's the summary in detail -

  1. The unusual happening : the narrator describes an incredible happening at the beginning of the story itself . When the tiger king was born and was merely ten days _old , the wise prophets predicted that "this child will grow up to be the king of kings but he will have to die one day." To this , the ten year old infant raised his voice saying everyone whose born will one day have to die. There could be a point of you could tell the manner of that death. This amazed the astrologers who were perplexed seeing an infant not only speaking but also raising intelligent questions . The astrologer replied that the infant born in the hour of bull. The tiger and bull are enemies . Therefore , death comes from tiger. instead of being scared , the boy angrily roared "Let tigers beware. Though it's not sure if this incident was true or not still it accounts for a divine forecast according to the happenings of the story .
  2. The upbringing of the boy : after that no mysterious happening occurred and the tiger king was bought up like any other Prince . He'd drink the milk of an English cow , was taken care by an English nanny , was tutored by an Englishman and saw nothing else but english movies . He grew up and was handed over his kingdom . Then everybody remembered of the astrologers ' predictions.

The ultimate mission : having remembered the astrologers prediction and in a verge to prove it wrong , the tiger king finally managed to kill the very first tiger and proudly showed it to the astrologer. to this he told the king that Your majesty shall kill 99 tigers the same way but...! Your death comes from the 100th tiger. Now the tiger king began his mission of hunting 100 tigers.
  4. Measures Taken to accomplish the mission : Tiger hunting was banned in the kingdom . No one could hunt tigers besides the king or else their property would be confiscated. Thus the king managed to hunt 70 tigers in about 10 years. He even denied a senior British official from hunting in his kingdom . But then , the tiger population went extinct in his kingdom
  5. The King's marriage : Now in order to continue his mission , he married a royal princess whose kingdom was rich in tiger population. Then he managed to kill a total of 99 tigers. The one remaining tiger presented a lot of trouble !
  6. Shooting the hundredth tiger : finally the king's Dewan managed to get a tiger from a zoo in Madras. But still the king missed the shot. In a dread of being fired , the hunters themselves shot it . and now 100 tiger skins adorned the wall of the palace .
  7. The Ultimate End : Having accomplished his mission , the king thought now he had escaped death.So now he decided to concentrate on his son. He gifted him a wooden tiger but it was made by an unskilled carpenter . Silvers of wood were coming out from it. So when he was playing with it , one of the quill of wood pierced his finger but he ignored it. In three days time , his whole arm developed a wound. He was operated by three surgeons . After the surgery , they announced the operation was successful . The tiger king is dead.

Thus, the 100th tiger took its revenge on the king.
