The lyric has a frightful tone which is frosty, and hopeless. The pictures of ice cold breeze are upgraded by the representation of the jail being "a woodwind for the breeze's mouth” Also, a more profound importance is present : the jails that we as people make for ourselves to shield us from ourselves!

The old prison by Judith Wright is a lonely and miserable poem and in this poem you can feel the loneliness and here old prison word was mainly used to show the German aliens during World War I.
Now after world war comes to an end but the sound of winds from cells still make it a lonely place and winds make this place a miserable place to live.
