Lencho is the main character of the story “The Letter to God.” He is a poor farmer who is the sole bread-earner of the family. He had faith in God. Lencho lived in a small house which was situated on the crest of a low hill in the valley. His house was the only house in the entire valley. He lived with his wife and his sons. The elder ones used to work with him in the fields and the younger ones played near the house. Throughout the morning Lencho sat in his house and waited for the rain to come. He wished for the rain or the shower for his field in which he had grown his crops. The rain would help his crops to get prepared for their harvest. He saw the sky in the North-east. He assumed that they would be getting a good rain that day. This would help his crops to grow more effectively.  He became very happy to see the raindrops and called them the gold coins falling from the sky. Lencho compares the big drops of rain to new coins. He compared them to coins because the rain indicated a very good and healthy harvest of the year. He was hoping that this year his crops would bring him a lot of money. Soon the rain became much heavy which ultimately destroyed all his crops. He became very sad to look at his crops get destroyed by the rain. In this way, his happy mood changed into concern one. Lencho wrote the letter to God as he thought that he would be the only one to help him in his bad times. He wrote a letter addressing to God to send him 100 pesos so that he and his family can survive in such a difficult situation. The postman in the story "A Letter to God" was of a very humble and kind in nature. When he saw that a person had written a letter addressing to the God he read the letter and decided to help the innocent person. He very well knew that there is no address of God to which he will deliver Lencho's letter. Hence he decided to not let Lencho's emotions down and help him by contributing money. But after seeing Lencho second letter everyone including the postman felt very sad as he had complained to God about the people working the post office. Lencho became sad when he didn't receive the total amount of money in the envelope. He hoped that God will be there to help him. When he found that the total amount was not in the envelope he wrote another letter to God requesting him that next time he should give money directly to him and not through the post as the people working in the post office are corrupt and had bad eyes on the money. Lencho called the post office employees "a bunch of crooks" because he thought that they have taken half of the money which God had send to him.

a story a letter to god by G.L Fuentes revolves around the idea of having unquestionable belief in something (god). the story is set in Latin American country . lencho , the farmer who is the protagonist of the story expecting for a rain shower to nourish his field of corn. he is confident that his harvest is going to yield him huge profits just like it does every year. as he expects it starts raining. he compared the raindrops as the coins . he is very happy. but soon the huge wind blows and large hailstones also began to fall. the crop totally destroyed. there is nothing left after the hail.but they have single hope :help from god.

the following sunday,he began to write a letter to god conveying him to help him and his family by giving him 100 pesos . he covered the letter with an envelope and dropped it into the mailbox. one of the employees i.e., the postman takes the letter and go to his boss by laughing heartily and showed him the letter to god . the postmaster also laughs by seeing that letter but suddenly he turns serious and he don't want to shake the writer's faith in god , so he collects the money from his employees and he himself gave a part of salary but he is able to collect only 70 pesos and he kept in envelope addressing lencho and a single word God.

Next sunday lencho came to post office see whether he got any letter. the postman himself gave the letter to lencho , lecho was happy to see the money but he became angry when he counted the money.he went to the public writing table and wrote another letter. to god that he has sent only 70 pesos and asked him to send the rest and he also mentioned that not to send the money through the post office as they are bunch of crooks.
