Sympathetic nervous system and parasympathetic nervous system are antagonistic in there action.

Sympathetic nervous system prepares the body for violent actions whereas the parasympathetic nervous system is concerned with bringing back normal conditions after the violent action is over.

For example:  

Sympathetic nervous system- constricts blood vessels

Parasympathetic nervous system -  dilates blood vessels
