Yes, Synthetic detergents are superior than soaps.
Reason /Explanation :-
In case of Hard water
Hard water contains high amount of Magnesium and calcium ions , when it reacts with soaps it forms insoluble substance.On the other hand, Synthetic Detergents forms highly soluble salts with calcium ions, In a result efficiency of cleaning the material will increase.
Also Synthetic Detergents doesn't forms insoluble precipitate on reacting with with calcium and magnesium ions, That's why they remain effective in hard water too.
Detergents contains ammonium or sulphonate salts, which react with hard water and forms soluble substance, While soap is made up of long chain of fatty acids by Sodium (Na) and Potassium(K) salts which reacts with hard water and forms insoluble substance.
