Tamil Nadu has rain during the monsoon season due to the southwest trade winds which blow towards the northern hemisphere. Tamil Nadu receives rainfall in the winter season due to northeast trade winds. The cyclones provide the extent of the precipitation on the Coromandel Coast.

Because it receive rain when the monsoon is going back it is know as retaringmonsoon . This happens during mid of November . That is why Tamil nadu cost receives rainfall in winter
