8 3/4+10 2/5=35/4+52/5=35×5+52×4/20=140+208/20=348/20=17.4(or)

Cost of a notebook =

 ₹8 \frac{3}{4}  =  ₹ \frac{35}{4}

Cost of a pen =

 ₹10 \frac{2}{5}  =  ₹ \frac{52}{5}

Total cost of both the articles =

 ₹( \frac{35}{4}  +  \frac{52}{5} ) =  ₹( \frac{175 + 208}{20} )

 =  ₹ \frac{383}{20}  =  ₹19 \frac{3}{20}

Hence, Tanvi should pay   ₹ 19 \frac {3}{20} to the shopkeeper.
