Germination of a seed :

Refer to the picture of seed germination.

  • Germinating is the process in which a plant grows from a seed.  It is the process of sprouting into a seedling.

  • It is a process by which a plant species grow from a single seed into a young plant.

  • The dry seed absorbs water quickly and this results in swelling and softening the seed coat.

  • The seed first develops its root from the radical that grows down into the Earth.

  • With the help of the roots, the seed absorbs underground water and nutrients from the soil.

  • Then, with the help of plumule,  the shoot of the plant starts growing upwards towards sunlight.
