Plastids. They're present in plants.

⭐ Plastids containing chlorophyll pigment are also known as chloroplasts. ( important for photosynthesis )

⭐ Leucoplasts are primary organelles in which starch, oils & protein organelles are stored.

⭐ The matrix within the chloroplast which encloses grana is known as stroma ( It contains enzymes necessary for dark reaction)

⭐ In the presence of light, green plastids or chloroplast manufactures carbohydrates from water & CO2.

⭐ Basically, Plastids are of 2 types.

→ Chromoplast - Coloured Plastids.

→ Leucoplast - Colourless / White Plastids.

PLASTIDS:

> These are membrane bound cell organelles present in plants.

> They were discovered by Ernst Haeckel.

> There are main 4 types of Plastids.

  • Chloroplast
  • Leucoplasts
  • Chromoplast
  • Gerontoplast

> Chloroplast: It contains a green pigment called chlorophyll, essential for photosynthesis.

> Leucoplasts: These are colourless Plastids. And also help in storage. Leucoplasts are also differentiated as:-

  • Proteinoplast: Storage of Proteins.
  • Amyloplast: Storage of Starch.
  • Elaioplast: Storage of Fats.

> Chromoplast: It contains coloured pigments. These are responsible for different colours of fruits, flowers, leaves etc.

> Gerontoplasts: These help in storage and synthesis of food.
