Moulting is a process of a bird losing its coat of feathers. This process generally occurs once or twice a year. In some instances , it can happen a third time, but this is not very common. This process can take up a lot of time, because birds often she their feathers in phases. The first phase can be recognised as birds simply start losing some feathers. These will be replaced by pin feathers, who will grow into actual feathers. After this the rest of the coat will shed and slowly be replaced by new feathers.
