Hi !

Solution : - Given that , P(E) - P( not E) = 0.4 ________(1)

Since, As we know that P (E) + P(Not E) = 1 _____(2)

adding equation 1st and 2nd we get ,

2P(E) = 1.4

P(E) = 0.7

Put the value of P(E) In (1)

We get ,

0.7 - P( not E) = 0.4

-P(not E ) = 0.4-0.7

P( not E ) = 0.3

P( E) - P( not E) = 0.4...eq 1

And

P(E) + P(not E) =1...eq 2

On adding eq 1 and eq 2

2P(E) = 1+0 .4

1.4/2=P(E)

0.7=P(E)

Put the value in eq 1

So that P( not E) would get

0.7- P( not E) =0.4

-P( not E) = - 0.3

P( not E)=0.3
