Acceleration is the rate of change in Velocity w.r.t Time.

A body having an acceleration = 10 m/s^2 will get an increment in velocity by 10 in 1 second.

Consider a situation when a cyclist starts from rest with an acceleration = 10 m/s^2

Initial velocity = 0m/s

Since he has an acceleration of 10 m/s^2

so,

In the next second of his motion his velocity will be = 10m/s

Again,

In the next second, his velocity becomes = 20 m/s

and so on..

Hope this helps.
