Let 'x' be the sum of ages of three children,

'y' be the age of the father,

$y = 2x --(1)$

After 8 years,

$y+ 8 = x + 3(8)$ { Because there are three children }

$y+8 = x+ 24$

$y = x+16$

Sub (1) in (2),

$2x = x + 16$

$2x - x = 16$

$x = 16$

So,

$y = 2x$

$y = 2(16)$

$y = 32$
